Sunday XI toil against BBC Bushmen

06 May 2019

A cold and gloomy afternoon at the home of Fernhurst Cricket didn't diminish the warm welcome afforded to the seasonal visitors from the Auntie.

Batting first, the Bushmen slowly amassed an impressive score of 175 by tea, this despite a strong bowling performance. Rambo Howe rolled back the years, Rob Unwin accurate with every ball, Chris Williams on the money, Jon Meier putting it on a six-pence and (running out of superlatives) the remaining bowlers of Simon Ralph, Steve Tytler and Bill Gourlay completed the attack.

An impressive spread from the #tea2 movement was notable for its first offering from Rosie Freeman - scones of distinction.

After tea, Fernhurst batting struggled with the spin and swing of the bowlers along with wickets that were clearly longer than the regulation distance. Chris Williams looked good for his 42 and Bill Gourlay played nicely for his nudge into the 30s however after that wickets fell easily. Run outs for Meier and Howe whilst Westley, Tytler and Ralph succumbed to some fine swing bowling. A wag of the tail from Jude Unwin, Rob Unwin and Rupert Raymond took Fernhurst past 125 but couldn't hold off the win for the Bushmen with 3 overs remaining.

During the match, the sponsor prowled the boundary, an ominous sign with many now fearing for their place in the side unless we deliver.
