A perfect morning for cricket saw the first outing of the Fernhurst Foxes this season against Grayshott. Alex Sinclair ably captained the side and drew first blood by winning the toss and electing to field first. Thomas Raymond and Harry Cork shared duties behind the stumps and very few byes were incurred as they demonstrated strong potential as future wicket keepers. Runs were hard to come by for Grayshott due to alert Fernhurst fielding and tight bowling. A sharp catch by Jonny and the brave use of Banjo’s kneecap prevented any 4s being scored in the Grayshott innings. Pick of the bowling was Will with 3 wickets for 5 runs, Zac with 1 wicket for 4 runs, Harry Calcroft 1 wicket for 3 runs and George 2 wickets for 8 runs. 8 wickets were taken in total as Grayshott made 129 in their 20 overs.
A fabulous spread of sandwiches was then devoured by all. Great effort from Grayshott.
A cautious and steady start from Fernhurst began with Connor and Alex leading the way. After 8 overs there was little between the teams. Fernhurst though need to practise their calling and running between the wickets giving away 2 run outs. Harry Calcroft (6 runs) played an assured innings and was a perfect calming influence on Zac (7 runs) who was able to demonstrate some craft with his batting. Then Fernhurst started to accelerate ahead with some lusty blows from Harry Cork (9 runs) and Thomas Raymond (15 runs & top scorer) as the boundary now started to see some action. Fininshing the innings George (7 runs) and Jonny (4 runs) took the game fully away from Grayshott and ensured that Fernhurst lost just the 5 wickets in 20 overs. Final total was an impressive 178. Well done the Foxes.
