Visiting from south London, the Spread came to Fernhurst hopeful of continuing their winning streak against the hosts. Based on the heat of the early afternoon, the stand-in skipper Westley elected to bat first. But it was the Spread who took the early initiative with some accurate swing bowling from George dismissing Sam Meier (11), Ali Kidd (0) and Westley (8). However, impressive knocks from Chris Williams (51) and Andy Baker (51) on debut, ably supported by a fine 17 from Jack Kidd saw Fernhurst notch 183 from their 35 overs.
Following the obligatory argument as to whether cream first then jam with regards to scones was settled, both sides waddled back to field for the second half.
After a fine, but reward-less opening over from Sam Meier, it was Ali Kidd at the other end who made the breakthrough with a fine spell of Sunday filth rewarded with a dazzling catch from Andy Baker on the boundary. Another fine catch by Baker in the deep saw Fernhurst gain the upper hand. Tidy bowling from Meier, Langridge, Williams, Howe and Baker pinned the visitors down but a destructive 112 from George, supported by the on-loan Will Judas Dyer (16) saw the visitors home.
Man of the match: Andy Baker (50, 2 catches and a fine spell with the ball)
