U11 Foxes claim second win of season at Wood Street Village

23 Jun 2019

A second outing for the Fernhurst Foxes saw them travel to Wood Street. The weather at last allowed for some cricket to be played and the Foxes were in fine form.
Under the diligent gaze of Captain Alex, the Foxes assembled their field and bowled first. Although early on there was plenty of accurate bowling, no breakthrough came and runs were ammassed by Wood Street at a steady pace. Fielding was excellent as displayed by a fine diving stop at the start by Harry and Thomas showed why wicket keepers wear helmets.

Then Over 11 came and the game took a different direction. Thomas took a sparkling 3 wickets in one over and then further wickets started to tumble. Isabel, Rowan, Quinn, Jonny, Zac and Alex all got amongst the wickets. Zac gave away just 2 runs and Thomas 1 run in their 2 overs. With a run out assisted by Isabel and Theo, Wood Street then finished on 116 for 10.

A confident Foxes team then realised that concentration was still required. Alex & Theo came upon some excellent bowling and showed determination to block out (mostly!) Rowan and Quinn were also on the receiving end of some sharp work in the field with catches being taken and bails flying. Fernhurst had by that time dropped to 85 for 6.

Then the runs started to accumulate. Connor was on fine form with the bat and smashed 14 runs, ably assisted by Isabel (3 runs).
Harry and Zac continued the barrage taking Fernhurst to 148. Lastly to complete the fine victory Jonny hit a brisk 12 runs and Thomas 5 runs.

164 for 8 was the final score and a second win for the Foxes. Well played everyone and thanks to Wood Street for making the game such a pleasure to be part off.
Player of the game goes to Thomas for his fearless keeping, useful runs but mainly for a match changing treble wicket maiden over.
