Milford v Fernhurst Cricket Club I'Anson 1st XI on Sat 24 Apr 2010 at 13:00
Fernhurst Cricket Club Won By 8 wickets

Match report The Fernhurst I'Anson team enjoyed their first match under the sponsorship of the Fernhurst Motor Company with a convincing victory over Milford.

The draw initially looked tough, against a team that had finished a place above Fernhurst in 2009. However, the new Fernhurst TVR sponsored club kit meant that Fernhurst had won the first psychological battle, and that carried over onto the pitch.

Mike Allen has clearly been practicing his coin tossing over the winter and won a crucial call, asking Milford to bat first. Lewis and Bristow immediately applied good pressure with some consistent pace on a lively and unpredictable wicket. However, the crucial blow came when Cole pushed a Lewis delivery to Foster, and then set off for a quick single. Foster's unorthodox pick-up & back handed throw allowed Lambert to whip the bails off and send danger man Gordon Gwilliam back to the pavilion with just 9 runs on the board.

Lewis and Bristow kept the pressure up, with the score quickly reaching 6 down for 42 runs, as the first change of Holloway weighed in with 3 wickets. However, the tide seemed to turn as Kevin Goodship and Will Crumbie rode their luck for several overs, taking the total up to 90 before Mike Allen held the vital catch to send Goodship back to port.

Alan Foster then started to mop up the remaining wickets, assisted by a wicket from Pete Winn with his only ball of the innings. Milford were then all out for 96 runs off 34.1 overs.

Fernhurst begain their reply in 6 overs before tea, with Allen & Boutell putting on 13 for the first wicket, before Dan Boutell edged Steele to the slips. Foster then joined the fray and pushed the score through to 14 for 1 at tea.

Milford claimed the crucial wicket of Mike Allen shortly after the resumption, as a possible bump ball was given as a catch and he was out for 17. However, this brought Bristow to the wicket and, along with Foster, they stroked their way to victory reaching 97 runs in just 22.2 overs. Fernhurst finished on 97 for 2 to claim a resounding victory.

Fernhurst start their season in the best way possible, and the goal of promotion is right on target. They next face Rowledge at home on 1st May.
