Dogmersfield II v Fernhurst Cricket Club I'Anson 1st XI on Sat 22 May 2010 at 14:00
Fernhurst Cricket Club Won By 6 wickets

Match report With a chance of a fifth straight victory, Fernhurst's week had got off to a terrible start, with a perfect storm of holidays, injuries and unavailabilities reducing a decent sized squad down to 8 available players on the Thursday evening. Cue some frantic phonecalls to Sunday players and occasionals, but even with a press gang outside the Red Lion on Friday evening we could only raise ten.

So, a brave call having won the toss, taking to the field with just ten men on a baking hot day. Usual service, of dot ball after dot ball, lasted briefly as a couple of early wickets lead to a total of 46 for 3, but this brought Pagden, Kishore and Bashir to the wicket. Kishore was a batsman in a hurry and rapidly blasted his way to 81, without pausing to think about any defensive shots - causing the fielders to spend a large amount of time searching in bushes ! Holloway, Winn, Fowler and Allen all suffered under the onslaught, but Allen had the satisfaction of seeing one beat the bat and hitting off-stump. By this time Dogmersfield were on 153 for 5 with pleny of overs remaining. However, the rest of the order was unable to match his performance, and a good display of line and length bowling from Pete Winn earned him four wickets to clear up the tail. Dogmersfield finished on 200 all out from just 35.2 overs.

Whilst patently not as strong as last week, the Fernhurst order still had a very strong spine, and this was proved very quickly as Mike Allen and Ian Mayfield made themselves at home. Tanveer showed good persistance and occasionally troubled the batsmen, but was unable to make a breakthrough. Mike Allen reached 50, but by this time the heat was starting to take its toll on both openers. Santosh finally got the first breakthrough with the score on 108, bowling Allen for 67 as he looked for another boundary. Bristow quickly found his stride, but Santosh struck again to remove Mayfield for 34, and then with Lambert also falling quickly to a Santosh delivery that stayed low, Dogmersfield's confidence started to rise. However, we've seen the Holloway and Bristow combination earlier this season, and they took their shot-making style to the bowlers quickly moving the score along from 121 for 3, up to the 170s. When Bristow finally went for 33, it only remaining for Holloway to keep peppering the boundaries and reach an unbeaten 36. Fernhurst closed on 201 for 4 from 43.2 overs.
