Fernhurst Cricket Club I'Anson 1st XI v Tongham on Sat 12 Jun 2010 at 14:00
Fernhurst Cricket Club Won by 125 runs

Match report Tongham visited Fernhurst in what could be described as a proverbial "six-pointer", as top played third in the table. The omens didn't seem great as Mike Allen lost his first toss of the season, and Tongham decided to put Fernhurst in to bat.

Alan Foster fell quickly to Graham, but then Boutell and Bristow set about the bowling, with the batsmen responding to the early wicket by taking 16 runs off Graham's third over. The run rate was ticking along at five per over, and 60 runs were on the board by the end of the 12th. Tongham, though, brought on Gadd and Meyer who between them turned the tables by removing Boutell for 31, followed by the very rare sight of Allen departing without troubling the scorers. Fernhurst, then, were still short of 70 runs, but were now three men down and Tongham's tails were in the air. Gourlay now joined Bristow at the wicket, and continued where he'd left off last week, by dropping anchor and bringing some stability to the innings. At the other end Bristow, Holloway, and then Lambert kept the scoreboard ticking along, all getting into the twenties. Between them, they pushed the total up to the 170s before Gourlay finally departed for 47. Fernhurst chose to bat through to the full 48 overs, so Winn, Warkem, and Josh Allen all played their part in adding quick runs at the end. Then as the 9th wicket fell in the final over, Ryan Lewis came out to bat one handed, the other still being in plaster, and to the great delight of the crowd finished up unbeaten with two memorable runs. Fernhurst finished on 214 for 9 off 48 overs, Graham and Gadd taking 3 wickets apiece.

Tongham's reliance on their top 4 batsmen had not gone unnoticed by Fernhurst's stattos, and explained their euphoria when Lewis removed Percy in the first over, thanks to a very sharp catch by Boutell. Head and S.Carrington attempted to rectify the situation, holding off the bowling for ten overs, but then Lewis struck again to remove Head for 9, and S.Carrington fell to Foster's first over as first change. Meyer remained as the known batsman, but was capably assisted by T.Carrington as they pushed the score along, albeit that at 42 for 3 off 16 a win was becoming increasingly unlikely. So, when Meyer fell to a catch by M.Allen off Foster the game had turned, and Tongham appeared to switch to a more defensive approach. However, Fernhurst's bowlers continued to bowl good line & length, forcing the errors and sharing the wickets with two each for Lewis, Foster, Holloway and Allen. Tongham were finally all out for 89 off 30.1 overs

Fernhurst make it seven from seven, and now look for an eighth win away at Elstead.
