Elstead II v Fernhurst Cricket Club I'Anson 1st XI on Sat 19 Jun 2010 at 14:00
Fernhurst Cricket Club Won by 4 wickets

Match report Fernhurst went to bottom club, Elstead II, looking for their eighth consecutive win of the season, and it looked like a straightforward enough task as the Elstead team took to the field with just ten men due to call ups from their 1st XI.

Fernhurst won the toss and put Elstead into bat, but it soon became clear that the home side were not simply going to roll over. Evans and Wade put up some very solid resistance, despite some high quality bowling from Bristow, and pushed the score along at around 4 runs per over. Evans was the first to fall, but that only brought Beaumant to the wicket who was quick to punish the bad ball. Fernhurst opted to try to strangle the run rate, with Tanweer and Allen bowling some very tight lines to push the scoring down to under three an over, ensuring that Elstead extended their innings to the full 48 overs. Wade fell to Allen, but Beaumant was still there, reaching his 50 and accelerating the scoring. Skipper Boxall joined in the action with a rapid 22. Elstead II finished with 170 for 6 from 48 overs.

The Fernhurst response got off to a bad start as Leitch removed Mayfield without scoring, which caused a conservative next 10 overs as Boutell and Tanweer carefully pushed the score along to just 20. Leitch and Boxall continued to bowl energetically and with very tight lines, meaning that by the time Tanweer was out Fernhurst were only on 45 from 16 overs. Two quick wickets followed, and with Fernhurst now on 90 for 5 off 25 overs, Elstead were sensing a well earned victory. However, Fernhurst bat well into the tail, and Holloway arrived at the crease to join Mike Allen, looking as though he was in no mood to hang around. Three monstrous sixes changed the game completely as Elstead's confidence fell away, and the scoreboard started to look more in Fernhurst's favour. Allen and Holloway continued to assault the bowling, until Holloway was caught on the boundary for a rapid 48, with the score at 159, leaving Lambert to help finish off the run chase. Allen finished up on an unbeaten 48. Fernhurst finished with 172 for 6 from 34.4 overs.

Fernhurst spend the next 3 weeks at home, looking for a 9th victory against Milford
