Fernhurst Cricket Club I'Anson 1st XI v Kingsley on Sat 24 Jul 2010 at 14:00
Fernhurst Cricket Club Lost by 112 runs

Match report Fernhurst's performance at Kingsley earlier in the season had been one of their strongest, but the return game saw a Kingsley team on the rise completely outclass the Division leaders. Kingsley lost the toss, batted first, and had looked in trouble at 90 for 5 after 27 overs. However, Nick Randell hit a quickfire 96 to bring the score to 231 for 6 after 45 overs. He then weighed in with 5 wickets for 10 runs off less than 7 overs to complete the lesson, as Fernhurst were all out for 119 off 39.2 overs.

Fernhurst were once again fielding a weakened team, with 3 strike bowlers missing, but for the first part of the Kingsley innings it did not seem to matter. Parrott and Moulds had looked to push the score along, and were over 4 an over early on, but two wickets from Winn, followed by the stranglehold of Howe and Allen, squeezed this down to nearer 3. Three further wickets fell from 85 to 90 on the board, and after just 27 overs it looked as though Kingsley might by out for a low score. However, Parrott was still at the crease and was joined by Nick Randell. Between them they took the game to the Fernhurst attack, with a partnership of 117, which included four 6s and eleven 4s for Randell alone. Allen pushed one through to bowl Randell for 96, but Parrott carried his bat making 64 not out, seeing Kingsley through to a sizeable 231 for 6 from 45 overs.

The total was far from impossible on a fast outfield, but the Fernhurst response got off to the worst start possible as Boutell fell fourth ball, and Bristow was caught on the fifth ball. Howe and Gourlay settled things down briefly, but both had fallen by the time the score got to 35. With Mike Allen at the wicket an unlikey win was still possible, but Nick Randell managed to get one to pop up extraordinarily from the wicket producing a dolly catch for Cooper. Fernhurst were now reeling at 52 for 6 off 22 overs. From this point on, Fernhurst were in a total role reversal from last week's game at Puttenham, with survival for a draw the only goal. Randell continued to take wickets, but Kingsley varied the attack to try to tempt the Fernhurst tail into errors. Mark Fowler, and then Pete Winn, exploited the spaces this created to run up good scores, with Fowler falling for a rapid 16, and Winn showing some excellent shot-making to reach 46. However, there was to be no escape as typically, it was Randell who bowled Winn to end Fernhurst's innings on 119 for 10 off 39.2 overs.

Fernhurst will try to get back on track against Tilford. Lesson learned !?
