Fernhurst Cricket Club I'Anson 1st XI v Dogmersfield II on Sat 14 Aug 2010 at 14:00
Fernhurst Cricket Club Won by 34 runs

Match report On a very damp August day Dogmersfield and Fernhurst fought out a very competitive, if rather bad tempered, match where both sides struggled to adapt to the difficult conditions. Dogmersfield won a crucial toss, putting Fernhurst in to bat which, after last week's experiences seemed like a very good decision. Fernhurst had learned their lesson, but still only managed 157 for 10 from 48 overs. Dogmersfield's response looked good as they kept well above the run rate in the early overs, but tight bowling from Fernhurst, in particular Mike Allen, meant that the wickets kept falling and they were bowled out for 123 from 33.2 overs.

With heavy rain on Friday, followed by a steady drizzle on Saturday morning, it looked as though a game was unlikely to be completed - or even started for that matter. However, a timely clearing of the clouds, followed by a drying wind meant that things could get underway on time. Dogmersfield's 1st XI game had already been called off, which meant that they were able to field a strengthened team, and having won the toss were in a very good position. Fernhurst went in to bat, anxious not to repeat last week's poor performance, and the top order did well in the difficult conditions. Geoff Howe hit a solid 36, whilst Mike Allen channelled some sledging into a good half century. However, the middle order failed to keep up the good momentum and the innings fizzled out into a score of just 157 all out from the 48 overs.

Dogmersfield seemed confident enough early on, and pushed the scoring along at around 4 per over. However, Lewis was bowling sharply from one end, whilst Holloway was taking advantage of his movement to remove the first two batsmen. Santosh has hit a lot of runs recently, and seemed to settle in very quickly with some firm strikes to the boundary. However, a lack of foot movement, plus some unpredictable bounce on the wet wicket, left him plumb in front of the stumps for 30, and a turning point appeared to have been reached. Allen resumed his contest with Hussain, again showing his quality by removing him and four others as he completed a 5 wicket haul. Dogmersfield captain Bashir put in a very brave attempt to steady the ship and battle through to a draw, but was unfortunate to see his partners running out at the other end, with Howe claiming the final wicket. Dogmersfield finished on 123 for 10 from 33.2 overs.
