We don't like cricket.
We love it.
Come and join us ...
On and off the pitch it really felt like Fernhurst Cricket Club was ‘going places’ in 2024. It was all very positive, apart from one blip which I will mention below. The Fernhurst Flames debuted in the hardball league while the 1st XI men had a strong season back in Division 2 of the I’Anson League. Both the Sunday XI and the juniors had busy and enjoyable seasons. Unfortunately, due to varying availability and a dollop of bad luck, the 2nd XI was relegated. We have so many good juniors progressing through the ranks I am sure we will bounce back into Div. 5 in 2025.
Based in West Sussex, right on the borders of Hampshire and Surrey, we are surrounded by beautiful woodland and are proud of an excellent square, outfield and practice nets. After much fundraising, the pavilion was the final piece in the jigsaw. You are very welcome to come and join us.
Our second season using our new facilities was even busier than the first. The Pavilion continues to be admired by all those who visit and we have settled in well, ably supported by The Fern Café, in delivering an all-round excellent cricket experience. As ever there were many highlights:
- the second May Bank Holiday tournament
- the second tour to the Isle of Wight
- the purchase of the Flicx wicket to hold more junior matches
- 135 matches recorded on PlayCricket
- hardly any cricket lost due to the weather which was a great achievement. My thanks go to all the ground staff.
- hosting five Sussex Seniors county matches for the second season in a row
- and, last but not least, our first season with an overseas coach, which was a huge success.
We have grown rapidly in the last decade and pride ourselves on being friendly and inclusive - there is a role or a team for everyone at Fernhurst, whatever the age or ability. Our membership subscription fees are low because we believe in 'Sport for All'.
The fixture lists are full as we look forward to the new season. We are proud to represent Fernhurst in our many away fixtures but, of course, playing at home is best!
Kind regards, Jon Meier
